Petroleum engineering is an engineering degree that mainly deals with the exploration, identification, recovery, and processing involved with oil and gas.  These days, oil and gas is a prime commodity of every country that is rich in them.  Not only does this help with the overall economy of the country, but it also helps citizens by having certain reductions or exemptions with their income taxes, especially for citizens that works as employees of businesses only.

These days, computers play a massive role in petroleum engineering as computer readouts help in identifying potential hydrocarbon reservoirs that are buried under massive tons of earth.  It is through the analysis of exploration data that helps with the proper identification of oil reservoirs.  Once properly identified, different engineering teams will assess on how to effectively drill down inside the earth to be able to reach the reservoir so they can create a well that will allow maximum recovery and extraction but at very little cost for the oil company.
